of Houston; it was a joint effort between the City of Houston, Texas Water Development, and the San Jacinto River Authority. Lake Conroe's location is roughly 40 miles North of Houston, with the South Shore and dam located off of Hwy 105 about 10 miles West of the City of Conroe.
Lake Conroe has over 21,000 acres of surface water, being about 19 miles long from top to bottom, and about 5 to 6 miles wide at its widest point. The average depth of the lake is around 20 to 25 feet deep, with the deepest points being the old river channel which runs through the middle of the lake at 80 feet. Lake Conroe real estate has over a 150 miles of picturesque shoreline, almost half of which borders the Sam Houston National Forest which will remain undeveloped, making boating, fishing, water skiing and sight seeing a pleasurable experience.

Lake Conroe has been recognized as one of the best lakes in Texas for cat-fishing over the years, though there are also plenty of other species of fish, such as large mouth bass, striped bass, white bass, crappie, blue, channel and flathead catfish. Lake Conroe is also becoming one of the premier large mouth bass fisheries in Texas.
