Montgomery Texas is a place rich in history. In 1826 Montgomery began as a small trading post situated about a mile north of where it's currently located and was later chartered in 1837. Owen and Margaret Montgomery Shannon, with Stephen F. Austin, settled and traded with the Indians that were present in the area at the time. Montgomery is also recognized as the birthplace of the Texas Lone Star Flag and was also the first county seat of Montgomery County and the third county formed under the Republic of Texas.

The first school in Montgomery came in 1839 which was just the start to the exemplary and recognized schools that so many families come to the area for now. In 1848 the city was incorporated and many civic and religious organizations came along with that. In the early 1850’s Montgomery experienced what was then a building boom, some of the beautiful historic homes that were built back then are still remaining today and are located just west of Hwy 105/FM149 junction, there are still some of the descendants of the original families or early owners occupying them today. With the beginning of the Civil War in 1861 progress in Montgomery was stalled, but by the early 1900's numerous establishments were back in business, which included cotton gins and mercantile, the railroads were also once again active with freight and passengers. There were also a few hotels and some boarding houses as well as lawyers, dentist and doctors. Later when the county seat moved and the railroads by passed Montgomery it reverted back to a quiet, peaceful town that was left with tons of history that is still evident today.

Today Montgomery offers folks a memorable visit with its many unique antique shops and preserved 19th Century Historic Downtown District, as well as robust commercial development all while still holding true to its historical roots. Montgomery holds many community events throughout the year such as the annual Historic Montgomery Wine & Food Trail as well as many arts and crafts shows.

Montgomery Texas is located at the corners Hwy 105 and FM 149, near the southwestern edge of the Sam Houston National Forest in Western Montgomery County. The center of town is 15 miles west of Hwy 45 and Conroe which is 45 miles northwest of Houston  Though prices for land have seen a steady increase in the past few years in Montgomery and the surrounding areas, there are still many opportunities to purchase parcels of acreage which to build your dream home on.
