The Woodlands is a large master planned community located in Montgomery County about 30 miles North of Houston off of Interstate 45. Roughly 24 square miles in area it was developed mostly as a residential community, but since its conception it's also attracted many businesses to the area which offer an array of employment opportunities as well as places for residents and visitors to enjoy and patronize without having to go very far. The Woodlands established an ordinance ovre 30 years ago in the early development stages that still remains today with emphasis for the preservation of as many trees as possible. Preservation of land for residents to enjoy was also high on the list of priorities when development of the Woodlands began. The Woodlands enjoys over a 140 miles of hike and bike paths, 110 parks, 13 swimming pools, numerous statues throughout the community, and almost 2000 acres of open space for residents and visitors to enjoy. Most people would agree that the Woodlands is simply a wonderful place to call home; the Woodlands has become such as desirable place to live by so many that the local real estate market has done very well over the past years through all the demand for homes. Even with most areas of the country suffering losses in value, homes for sale in The Woodlands are still in demand.

The Woodlands Waterway will eventually be more than a half mile long, starting from The Woodlands Mall and wrapping around Lake Woodlands; it features wide lighted sidewalks as well as the a Waterway Taxi, and will resemble the renowned San Antonio River Walk.
Most of The Woodlands is served by the Conroe Independent School District; many of the schools within The Woodlands are ranked either exemplary or recognized, with The Woodlands High School being ranked on Newsweek's 2007 list of the 1000 Best High Schools in America. The Woodlands also has several private schools to choose from should people be interested in enrolling their children there.

Village of Indian Springs- Lies on the northern border of Spring Creek.

Village of Panther Creek- The Woodlands second community; borders the west side of Lake Woodlands.

Village of Sterling Ridge- Towards the eastern side of the Woodlands; the Woodlands ninth grade campus and the exclusive Carlton Woods community are both located here.

Town Center- Market street, The Waterway District, The Woodlands Mall, and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion are all located here.
